I don't know how many of you Danny Phantom fans read fan fiction on ff.net, but if you do I have found something to highly recommend.

It's not really a fic per se, but more a guide. More specifically, Grumbles Guide to Bad DP Fanfiction. It's new and being updated almost constantly actually. Anyways, I have found it completely entertaining and I absolutely adore it! It's by a well-respected DP author (Grumbles) who has had his fair share of success in the fanfiction world and he is passing his knowledge on to other aspiring writers. Now whether you feel you can learn from his knowledge or not isn't really the point; it's the fact that he's actually writing it. And while yes, it may get a little preachy at times and gets a little DP True-Fans (not that it's a bad thing, it's just very one-sided) it's still got generally good information.

It's a way to hopefully cleanse the DP section on fanfiction.net of some rather annoying and unattractive habits that deter readers like, for example, page-long paragraphs, Mary-Sues (a real bad one in this fandom (anyone remember that journal I posted earlier about the fic that practically burned my eyes out? :fear:)), review requirements (If I get 15 reviews I'll post the next chapter!! :faint:), in-text author's notes, and the like. It's really really good and he approaches it in such a witty, funny way that it'll entertain both the people hoping to learn from it and the people that are reading it for the pure entertainment of reading it and seeing the cleansing process in action =D

Seriously, this kind of guide has been needed for a long time in this fandom and while I know that not everyone's going to listen or anything, it still gives me hope. Maybe I can actually dare to click on a story with an OC and not be afraid to find a Mary-Sue behind the door.

And for the record, I don't want anyone to think that I'm making fun of OCs or people that use them or anything, I've just had bad experience with OCs and tread carefully on any story that uses them. If I'm really pressed for time, I just won't read them at all because if I have a few blessed minutes to read something, I don't want to be disappointed by ending up with a Mary-Sue. An all canon cast is a lot safer for the short on time :nod:

And just another disclaimer since I realize I kinda dug myself into a whole earlier, I'm not making fun of anyone that uses what I dubbed 'annoying habits' earlier. I won't take back what I wrote and say they aren't because they really are. Page-long paragraphs are hard if not impossible to read. Mary-Sues...enough said. Review requirements a lot of times end up cutting what could have been a good story short because sometimes people just don't review and it also makes the author look like a popularity hog, which isn't a good thing for your reputation. And in-text author's notes are just unnecessary since whatever anecdote you have to say can't possibly be more important than the continuation of the story-line. So again, you're not annoying if you use them, but the stated technique is, and for the aforementioned reasons.

... ^^;

Sorry, got a little preachy there, I know. I've been reading this guide too much =D I just didn't want to offend anyone that happened to use those and thought it warranted a clarification. Sorry :ashamed:

:movingon:

Anywho, long and short of it, Grumble's Guide to Bad DP Fanfiction is a hoot and very informative if anyone's looking for an entertaining read!

Oh, and on a really random side note...I really wanna DS...=( I'm now the only one of all my friends and family that doesn't have one now! My Mom even has one! :cries:

Heheh. I can't bring myself to read that "fic", actually. It's not the first of its kind, and I quite enjoy PhantomInvader's and dpluver's guides. By the way, if you haven't seen it, ~WingsofMorphius has a good OC creation guide on FF.net too.

I may read Grumbles' at some point, but not right now.

Oh. My. God.

I am Grumbles, and I cannot believe that this is actually FEATURED in a JOURNAL!

(See how clever and witty I am? Grumbles = Grumbletron)

But whoa. I'm shell shocked. Thank you so much.
Sounds very interesting! I might have just enough time to look it up!!
